WhatsApp released a new design refresh for its iOS and Android versions. The update is a bit more noticeable in light mode, as it includes a new colour palette and some other changes to make the apps look more uniform across operating systems. WhatsApp Brings New Design With UI Changes
WhatsApp is rolling out various changes to its user interface. Idit Yaniv, VP, Head of WhatsApp Design, Meta said that over the years, it has primarily focused on adding utility to the app. “As the product continued to grow in functionality, the design needed to evolve as well. We wanted the product to feel more fresh and modern without disrupting its core functionality,” said Yaniv in a blog post.
WhatsApp is introducing a new, consistent green palette within the app as part of its new design. Meta said that it considered over 35 different colour iterations, “ultimately aligning with WhatsApp’s iconic green and opting for a palette that allows for harmonious colour pairings throughout the app”. Meta has also increased the usage of neutral colours, which allowed it to be more selective about where and how the green is used.

The icon and button designs have also undergone a transformation, with alterations in shape and colour contributing to a more visually appealing interface. Furthermore, certain sections of Whatsapp have been spaced out more generously, enhancing overall readability and navigation in the new design.

Another new design change in WhatsApp is that it has also improved the dark mode on its platform to make it more AMOLED-friendly. The dark mode is no longer greenish-grey and is darker to make elements more legible. Users will also see the search bar at the top with Meta AI integration.
