This year Tecno launched some of the best smartphones under Rs 15,000. There was Spark 7 and now Spark 8T at 9K, we saw the new POVA 2 budget gaming smartphone. Then came Camon 17, which has again a solid offering in the sub-15K category. Now the brand has launched its Tecno Camon 18 in India at 14,999. And we are going to talk about 5 reasons in our first impressions, which makes it a great buy for its price point.

  1. Camera: 48MP Rear & 48 Selfie

This is the first kind of combo for any smartphone in this category, along with a 48MP rear camera, it gets a 48MP selfie camera. So, along with taking care of your high-resolution images, it can take your high-resolution selfies. Isn’t that great!

  1. Video Content Creator Tools

While talking about the camera, you should also be aware that Tecno has introduced some amazing short-videos content creator tools. These tools are built into their camera application. You get 8 different presets in the Film mode, where an auto Reel/Short is created in the camera app itself. This could be of major interest to the current Youth generation who are using phones to create Reels and YouTube shorts.  Furthermore, there are more than 2 dozen filters for creating videos. Call them AR stickers may be, they come with a full set of audio moods too, ranging from dance to street, and more.

  1. Performance: 128GB Storage & Virtual RAM Expansion

Powered by Helio G85, Tecno is using the gaming-focused processor on their latest Camon 18 smartphone. They are offering a 128GB storage capacity on their base variant, which is unheard of in this category. Now another first for the Tecno brand is the introduction of Virtual RAM expansion support. We have been seeing this feature on phones from Vivo, OPPO, Realme, and even Xiaomi. Looks like it could be the breakout feature of 2021, and we may see more of this in 2022.

Essentially, Tecno Camon’s RAM could be expanded up to 7GB using this feature. You can add up to 3GB extra RAM on top of 4GB provided system RAM. It’s supposed to boost system performance, and let me tell you it’s not a gimmick feature.

  1. Design: Sturdy & Shiny

Tecno has absolutely improved their game as far as design is concerned. I have been noticing this since earlier this year. Even the Camon 17 came with a sturdy design. The one thing that they have done better here is the colour. Unlike the Green colour of Camon 17 I love the new Dusk Grey colour on Camon 18. The brand doesn’t tease the build quality on their website or store listing pages, but I can assure you it’s unmatched by the likes of Realme and Xiaomi in this price category.

You also see a side-mounted fingerprint sensor here, which is my favourite place for a fingerprint sensor.

  1. Display: Large Screen FHD+ display

A large screen and a Full-HD+ resolution display have become a norm these days, and there’s nothing wrong with keeping up with the norm. Although the screen is not as bright as I would like it to be, it’s just 500 nits. Furthermore, you don’t get an oleophobic coating. Those are some compromises you’d be doing, but they shouldn’t be a deal-breaker. It should be good for casual binge-watching shows on Prime and Netflix.

Additional Reason: Large Optimised Battery

It comes with a large 5000mAh battery capacity, which is optimised by HiOS 8.0, and I can vouch for the battery optimisation of Tecno as I have previously used many Tecno phones this year. Additionally, you get a fast 18W charging support, which I know is not the best in class, but it’s something.

So, what do you guys think about these reasons to buy Tecno Camon 18. Are you convinced? Well, if you haven’t already I have one more thing to share. In case, you do end up deciding to buy this phone, you are entitled to get a TWS Buds 2 worth Rs 2,000. Now you must be intrigued to buy one.
