Carl Pei’s tech startup Nothing has already marked its presence in the market with its earbuds Ear (1). Now, the company is planning a lot of launches in its product lineup in the coming year. Just recently the founder teased a smartphone in the works. However, rumours and leaks of the same phone being in the works came up a lot previously. Now, the company confirms the launch of a Nothing Phone 1 this year. Let us read about the details of the event ‘The Truth’ by Nothing:
Today’s highly anticipated Nothing event has ended. Now, is the time to sit down and see what exactly this event brought. Instead of a launch, we see pretty good anticipation and good marketing on an upcoming launch. After launching only one product, the company is all set to bring a new product – a smartphone – Nothing Phone 1 in the mix.
Nothing Phone (1) and Its’ Ecosystem
Nothing will launch its debut smartphone this summer. While the hardware details are not yet known, Pei shared details on the software that will ship this smartphone. The smartphone will come with a custom Android version that the company calls Nothing OS. During the event, he revealed the plans for launching the phone. We already know that the smartphone will power on a Qualcomm Snapdragon SoC. But, this time we know about it officially.

It should be noted that he referred to the British summer which starts around July or August. Meaning, we can expect a launch sometime in July 2022 or August 2022. Simply put Nothing Phone 1 will launch sometime in Q3 2022.
“We’re building the most compelling alternative to Apple.”– Carl Pei’s in the event.
He acknowledges the fact that Apple devices work so seamlessly with each other due to its ecosystem. But he also says that the consumers don’t have an alternative to the Apple ecosystem. Nothing’s ecosystem will be the open answer to that, according to Pei. He says it’s the start of an ecosystem of products. To underline this, integration and connectivity options with Apple AirPods and Tesla cars are teased during the presentation.
Although Pei did not delve into the hardware details of Nothing Phone 1. He did go into quite a detail for the software it will run on. The phone will run on Nothing OS, an Android skin that “will effortlessly connect and integrate Nothing products and products from other world-leading brands.”
Furthermore, the images shared of Nothing Phone 1 during the event reveal an At a Glance-like widget at the top of the home and lock screen. Carl Pei further says that the OS is focused on minimizing distractions, so it’s using fewer animations and will introduce more focus-centred features.
Like OnePlus’ initial approach to OxygenOS, Nothing OS is to only consist of the best features from “pure” Android. It will also consist of “the hardware seamlessly integrates with software through bespoke fonts, colours, graphical elements and sounds.” Simply put, it will be close to stock Android, all while staying true to the company’s distinct style.
