WhatsApp green dot testing is now expanding to iPhone users after first appearing on Android beta last month. The new feature adds a small green dot to indicate when a contact is online, making it easier for users to know who is currently active on the messaging platform.
The feature is now available for select users running WhatsApp beta version 26.26.10.72 on iOS. The online indicator works in real time and disappears as soon as the contact goes offline. While the feature is still limited to beta testers, it gives a glimpse of what could arrive in the stable version of WhatsApp in the future.
WhatsApp Green Dot Testing Reaches iOS Beta

The latest phase of WhatsApp green dot testing introduces a simple but useful visual indicator for iPhone users.
If you are using the latest WhatsApp beta on iOS, you will notice a small green circle at the bottom right corner of a contact’s profile photo. However, the indicator is only visible inside the Contact Info screen, which opens after tapping on a contact’s profile picture.

The green dot updates instantly based on a contact’s activity. If the person is online, the dot appears. Once they leave the app or go offline, the indicator disappears automatically.
Current availability:
- Available on WhatsApp beta 26.26.10.72 for iOS
- Also available to some Android beta users
- Visible only in the Contact Info screen
- Updates online status in real time
At the moment, the feature is not shown in the chat list or the main Chats tab, where many users may find it more useful.
Privacy Rules And Public Release Remain Unclear
WhatsApp has confirmed that the green dot follows the same privacy settings as the app’s existing Last Seen and Online status.
This means users who choose to hide their online status or last seen information from others will not display the green dot either. The feature respects existing privacy preferences, ensuring users remain in control of who can see their activity.
Privacy highlights:
- Works with existing Last Seen and Online privacy settings
- Hidden online status also hides the green dot
- No changes required to current privacy controls
For now, WhatsApp green dot testing remains limited to a small group of beta users on both Android and iOS. Meta has not announced when the feature will roll out to all users, but its expansion to iOS suggests a wider public release could be closer than before. If testing goes smoothly, the online indicator may soon become a standard feature across WhatsApp’s mobile apps.
