About the Phone
The Samsung Galaxy J4 Core is a hefty model and features a couple of excellent features. A few of its pros and cons are:
- The Samsung Galaxy J4 Core comes with a headphone jack.
- It has a great 3300 mAh battery that can last for about a day.
- It comes with a good set of cameras with LED flash so that you can take detailed pictures in both ideal light and low-light conditions.
- The Samsung Galaxy J4 Core does not come with a Gorilla Glass Screen protector, which makes it prone to scratches.
- It does not have water or dust resistance.
- The display is poor with washed out colour and poor brightness levels.
- The performance of Samsung Galaxy J4 Core is quite poor and can make gameplay choppy.
The Samsung Galaxy J4 Core is a capable entry-level phone, but it is not a good performer. If you are looking for a phone to dabble with smartphone features without looking too much into the performance side, then this phone will be a value-for-money choice.
Samsung Galaxy J4 Core comes as a budget model looking to compete against common budget phones like Xiaomi and Oppo. Priced at ₹ 8,990.00, this phone has some excellent features but falters in certain fundamental aspects of a smartphone.
The Samsung Galaxy J4 Core does not arrive with a durable construction. It leaves off Gorilla Glass Protection and fails to come with water resistance. The display remains quite weak. The only improvement it undergoes is in the camera department, though the other internals remain quite mediocre. On the whole, this is not a recommended phone if you are looking to perform intensive tasks on your phone.
Samsung Galaxy J4 Core has dimensions of 160.6 x 76.1x 7.9 mm. At 170g, the phone is on the heavier side, but it is quite robust and seems to be long-lasting. Unlike the Samsung J3, it does not come with a removable battery, but it has a 3.5 mm headphone jack which gives it a significant advantage over modern phones which are losing their headphone jacks. While the camera does not sit in flush with the rest of the set, the slight protrusion is still quite tolerable. One of the downsides of this phone is that it does not come with dust or water resistance which is a feature being offered by many budget phones in this range. Plus, the phone does not come with Corning Gorilla Glass for screen protection. Hence the screen remains vulnerable towards scratches and cracks. On the whole, it has a solid build, but it cuts back on many essential features.
Samsung Galaxy J4 Core comes with a 6-inch TFT capacitive touch screen with a resolution of 720 x 1480. The colours might appear a bit washed out even if the phone provides excellent brightness. The viewing angles are right, too. While outside, the visibility does not diminish much, but if you place it directly under the sun, the visibility will decrease. If you look at the display carefully, then you might be able to spot some pixels, which indicates poor resolution. Plus, the set comes with bezels dropping the limiting amount of screen space for you to play with.
The Samsung Galaxy J4 Core comes with an Exynos 7 Quad 7570 Quad Core processor same as Galaxy J4, clocked at 1.3 GHz. It is quite a performer which can run basic tasks quite smoothly. While running one or two apps is ok, going for multiple apps may slow down the phone. Casual gaming works okay, and low-end games run just fine on this phone. However, there will be occasional frame drops. When you are running high-end games, the phone will get sluggish, and the gameplay will be choppy, even at low settings. All in all, the performance of this set is quite decent enough for essential functions and is suitable for an entry-level phone.
The Samsung Galaxy J4 Core comes with an 8MP rear camera with an f/2.2 aperture and an LED flash. In ideal light conditions, the camera can capture enough details to make the objects of the picture discernible. The colours are quite good, and the phone has good contrast. In low-light, the quality of the photos fall, but the fall is not as drastic due to the presence of flash. The photographs may appear grainy, but the details are captured, and the colours appear almost the same as the original one. The front 5MP camera with LED can capture good social-media good pictures in ideal light conditions. In low light, you can use the flash to make your image more prominent.
The Samsung Galaxy J4 Core has an excellent Li-ion non-removable 3300 mAh battery. The battery is quite large and delivers as well. It lasts for quite a long time, and with light use, it can even last for an entire day. However, just like the J4, this phone does not arrive with fast charging. Hence, if the charge gets drained, it will require about 3 hours to recharge the phone again.
As a budget phone, the Samsung Galaxy J4 Core is a decent one. It comes with a beautiful set of cameras and a great battery life. However, there are certain shortcomings. The phone comes with a poor display, and the performance is quite average. If you are someone who’s looking for a power-packed performer, then opting for Redmi 5 would be a better option. Otherwise, this phone is a great entry-level handset for Samsung fans entering the world of smartphones.
