Govt Keeps PUBG Mobile India Waiting For Go Ahead

PUBG Mobile to launch as PUBG Mobile India in the country. However, the launch is delayed.

    PUBG Mobile India: Launching Later?

PUBG Mobile India team is trying to get their game back in the country for some time now. However, the company made announcements of the relaunch just before Diwali. They were, however, waiting for a go-ahead from the government.

On the other hand, there are numerous reports in the interim suggesting that the game may be re-launched in India any day. However, such reports are wrong. There has been very little official confirmation coming from the company.

PUBG Mobile India: Launching Later?

According to reports for InsideSport, they had requested a meeting with the government four weeks ago but the Centre is yet to respond. PUBG Mobile India needs permission from the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) to be able to go live here. MeitY is not responding to PUBG promoters’ request for a meeting. However, their request went four weeks ago.

“Government is yet to respond to the request for the meeting. The game promoters are ready to comply with all norms set by the Indian government. But no response has come back from the MEITY office.” 

A source close to PUBG promoters told Inside Sport

To recall, PUBG Mobile, along with PUBG Mobile Lite, banned in India in September 2020 owing to its links with China. The latter occurred due to PUBG Mobile being backed by Chinese technology giant Tencent Gaming. Since the ban, PUBG Corp isolated the game’s India operations from Tencent as its distribution partner. Additionally, they also set up its official India subsidiary, PUBG India, showing greater intent in being operational in India again.

It is important to note that the Government is yet to issue clearance for banned apps to operate in India again. The reason behind this is concerns around Chinese infiltration of Indian cyberspace. This is owing to which popular apps such as TikTok, PUBG Mobile, CamScanner, and others so far facing the axe.
