Samsung has enhanced the Galaxy Z Flip8’s design with its new model. In foldable and flip phones, the hinge and durability are two of the most important aspects. Its overall design is almost identical to the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip7.

However, the in-hand feel is amazing, even though it comes with a slimmer body, measuring 6.1mm when unfolded and 13.1mm when folded, compared to the Galaxy Z Flip7, which I reviewed last year.

The phone features a plastic front when unfolded, a glass back with Gorilla Glass Victus 2, and an aluminium frame. The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip8 comes with an upgraded Armour FlexHinge that is stronger and smoother, engineered with a wider inner bezel gap. This makes one-handed opening easier and more effortless.

The redesigned hinge significantly minimises the visibility and depth of the inner display crease. After using it, there is almost no crease at all. Honestly, you might notice the crease more clearly after using the phone for a longer period.

The phone also comes with an IP48 rating for dust and water resistance. It can protect against dust particles larger than 1mm and can be submerged in up to 1.5 metres of water for 30 minutes.

Moving on to the ports, the power and volume buttons are placed on the right side, while the SIM tray is on the left. At the bottom, there is a speaker, a Type-C port, and a microphone, while the secondary speaker is placed at the top.

It comes with stereo speakers, and the sound quality is even better than last year’s Samsung Galaxy Z Flip7.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip8 comes with a dual rear camera setup, including a 50MP wide and a 12MP ultrawide sensor. Honestly, I have not used the camera to capture images in several different conditions.

However, I captured a lot of images in bright conditions using the normal and portrait modes, and the results were impressive. As you can see in the flower images, the photos look natural and sharp, with proper depth. Even when you zoom in, there is no major pixelation.

Similarly, you can see the normal camera results, where my face looks slightly beautified. This is because I selected the Enhanced option instead of Natural at the beginning of my camera test.

The portrait mode also performs well, with well-defined edges and a good background blur effect. The colours look amazing and remain natural. The ultrawide camera is also impressive and captures good-looking images with a wider field of view.

Most of the results are captured at 12MP, while the 50MP sensor comes into use in low-light conditions.

The front camera also performs well with its 10MP sensor. However, because this is a flip phone, you probably won’t need to use the front camera often, as you can use the rear cameras with the cover display to capture better-quality selfies.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip8 comes with a 4,300mAh battery for long-lasting battery life. I have been using it for a few days, and it offers over 13 hours of battery life with mixed usage. Honestly, I played a few BGMI games, which increased battery consumption compared to normal usage. So, with normal usage, you can get 13+ hours of battery life, while with heavy usage, you might get around 8–9 hours.

For charging, it supports 25W wired and 15W wireless charging. Samsung also claims that it can reach 55% in 30 minutes through QC2.0. However, I can’t comment on this, as I charged it only two times during the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip8 review, using an Apple 20W charger.

For wirelessly charging your earbuds or other compatible devices, it also supports 4.5W reverse wireless charging.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip8 comes with a 6.9-inch Foldable Dynamic LTPO AMOLED 2X display, while its cover screen has a 4.1-inch Super AMOLED display. Both displays support a 120Hz refresh rate, HDR10+, and up to 3,000 nits of peak brightness.

The main display has a 1080 x 2520-pixel resolution with a 21:9 aspect ratio and around 400ppi pixel density, while the cover display has a 948 x 1048-pixel resolution with 342ppi. The main display also comes with Mohs Level 1 protection, while the cover display is protected by Gorilla Glass Victus 2.

During the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip8 review, I watched a few videos, especially those with deep blacks, and my experience was fine.

The HDR10+ support allows you to consume high-quality content on YouTube, Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and other supported platforms.

Both displays have a few common features, including 3,000 nits of peak brightness. I used the phone in bright conditions, and there was not much reflection on the display to create problems during usage. Similarly, the 120Hz refresh rate makes scrolling and animations feel fast and smooth.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip8 comes with the Exynos 2600 (2nm) chipset in the Indian model, while the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 (3nm) is used in select markets, including the US, Canada, and China.

The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 offers stronger CPU performance than the Exynos 2600, while the Exynos variant can still deliver a smooth experience for everyday usage.

Despite Samsung’s move to its in-house 2nm chipset, I can’t say that it has completely eliminated the heating issue. To give you more context, I have also used the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra and Galaxy Z Fold8, which had the 8 Elite Gen 5 (3nm), and both handled performance and heating better than the Z Flip8 in my experience.

Moreover, I used the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip7 last year, which also had excessive heating issues. However, I have noticed an improvement in the latest model compared to the previous generation.

So far, I have used this phone to capture photos, watch videos, and play a few light games. Overall, the performance has improved over last year’s model, though I would not consider it completely free of heating issues.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip8 comes with Android 17 based on One UI 9. Samsung has promised up to seven years of major Android and security updates, making it a future-proof phone.

The UI enhancements are one of the major highlights of this phone. During my Samsung Galaxy Z Flip8 review, I found the UI better optimised, while the cover display has received a major upgrade.

You can now access more features directly from the cover display without opening the main display, including notifications, the camera, supported apps, games, and social media.

One UI 9 is also better optimised for the Z Flip8, allowing you to customise the overall interface according to your needs. Samsung has also added several new cover themes and styles in the display settings.
